Being prepared will save you time and worries. This is a basic list of the information you will need, to fill your tax form more efficiently:
Your Social Security Number (SSN) or your Personal Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
Work income record forms (Form W-2) and all related to interest paid or received by bank accounts, mortgage payments, among others
Full names, birth dates and Social Security numbers of your dependent family members, which will be included in your tax return
Tax return from previous years if you have already declared them
And this is a basic list of additional information, which even when it is not necessary could help you when filling out your tax form, especially if you consult a tax preparer:
A valid ID card
Receipts of all your doctor’s expenses and medicines
Contributions to non-profit organizations (some churches qualify for these contributions)
Proof of remittances sent to your parents and / or children
Proof of childcare payment for your children
What is the ITIN? It is the Taxpayer’s Personal Identification Number.
Any person who does not qualify for a Social Security number, and goes to file taxes in the United States, can request an ITIN through the W-7 form. An ITIN number also allows you to open a bank account that generates interest and makes it easier for you to obtain certain financial banking products.
Remember, ITIN is only your taxpayer identification and is NOT an authorization to work in the United States. If you need an ITIN to file your taxes, do not hesitate to contact us and we will help you, as always, for free.
